Anderson .Paak and Knxwledge Bring the Heat on "Lyk Dis"

Success doesn’t seem to have stressed these two affiliates of Dr. Dre’s Aftermath Recordings. Anderson .Paak has been a dominant force in 2016, from the release of his stellar album Malibu in January to his scene-devouring guest appearances for Kaytranada and Mac Miller. Meanwhile, Knxwledge—who got a profile boost last year from a production credit on Kendrick’s To Pimp a Butterfly, much as .Paak did with his appearances on the good Dr.’s Compton—schooled listeners on his stuttery, hazy approach to beatmaking with this year’s Wraptaypes comp.

Now the two appear to be reveling in the spotlight as they revive their duo NxWorries, through which they released the Link Up & Suede EP, with quite a bit less fanfare, last December. “Lyk Dis,” the first glimpse of NxWorries’ upcoming debut album Yes Lawd!, finds .Paak joyfully crooning step-by-step lovemaking instructions, while Knxwledge offers forth production that is equal parts mesmerizing choppiness and soulful radiance. Could it make you blush to hear it while accidentally making eye contact with a passerby on the sidewalk? Yes, lawd, though for its matter-of-fact intimacy as much as its explicitness.
