Anderson .Paak and Snakehips’ "Money On Me” Is a Perfect Summer Song

Like on their 2015 single “All My Friends,” the latest tracks from UK duo Snakehips embrace slower-paced productions. Rather than blend in with the excessive sameness of contemporary UK house, the pair have reversed course, crafting sharp, infectious pop songs that dip their toes into accessible hip-hop grooves. Each track wanders, rather than shooting propulsively down the road. In the end, this makes Snakehips interesting. Never clocking in at more than three or four minutes, the songs sound much longer, but pleasantly so.

We hear this on their latest, “Money On Me,” featuring potential 2016 MVP Anderson .Paak. It packs in just the right amount of detail, slowly beckoning the listener into its calm, easy-breezy nature. This couples perfectly with .Paak’s syrupy vocals, flowing like the rush of a warm wave. “Money On Me”  is out right in time for summer. There’s a subtly charming treat in its steady drum beat and sing-along chorus—it begs for a summer cookout, or at least the same long, meandering kind of day that feels so present in their songs.
