Future Brown: "Wanna Party" [ft. Tink and 3D Na'Tee]

Having lingered on Soundcloud for about a year, “Wanna Party” was the first recording from Future Brown, the long-gestating collaboration between Fatima Al Qadiri, Nguzunguzu, and J-Cush. The track hinges on the alternately punctuated or slurred chorus, turned in by Chicago’s Tink, and now it has been fleshed out—with a verse from New Orleans rapper 3D Na’Tee—in advance of the group’s upcoming 12″ for Warp.

Future Brown’s production promises a pan-atlantic blend of bass musics, melding everything from lumbering grime to footwork to the hybrid, space-age R&B coming from Nguzunguzu et al. on Fade to Mind. And they don’t disappoint: the rapid-fire hi-hats and ghostly bells sound like trap music being played in a cathedral, and it never seems to choose between “intimidate” and “soothe.” Tink, though, is the track’s star, offering an irresistible, staccato challenge during the chorus—”Don’t you/ Want to/ Party?/ Put some/ Liquor/ In your/ Body?”—before an offer: “Fuck this cluuuub/ Let’s get drunnnnk.” Of course, “This sucks, let’s get drunk instead” is a pretty universal sentiment, and certainly one deserving of the kind of artistic clout “Wanna Party” throws at it.
