Kamaiyah: "How Does It Feel"

Kamaiyah is here to fuck up some year-end lists. The first lady of Oakland’s Big Money Gang—who have a significant amount of YouTube gems themselves, though it’s obvious Kamaiyah is the group’s star—she’s now struck out on her own. “How Does It Feel” has been quietly gaining local traction, for reasons fairly self-evident: in a year dominated by paranoid, depressed rap anthems, this beat is pure ecstasy.

Retro-futurist synths and twitchy booty-bass 808s explode into triumphant g-funk, and Kamaiyah lays out her aspirational vision of the good life. Which more or less boils down to some bottles of Moet, a full-wall impressionist painting of a quaint Parisian cityscape, an endless supply of shirts your dad might have worn in the ‘90s, and an N64 with Banjo-Kazooie on deck. It doesn’t seem like too much to ask for making the most addictive rap song of the year’s final stretch.
