1980s D.C. Punk Scene Documented in New Book Spoke

A new book features photos and interviews with various bands from the teeming Washington D.C. punk scene of the 1980s. Spoke, compiled by Scott Crawford, is out February 2 via Akashic Books, is an “oral and photographic history” of the scene that includes bands like Fugazi, Minor Threat, Bad Brains, Rites of Spring, and more. According to a press release, the new book “sheds light on the ways in which the music coming out of the nation’s capital… served as a mode of political and economic critique.” Spoke also serves as a companion piece to the Crawford-directed documentary Salad DaysFind more information about the book here.
