5 Albums Out Today You Should Listen to Now: Spoon, ANOHNI, Real Estate, More
With so much good music being released all the time, it can be hard to determine what to listen to first. Every week, Pitchfork offers a run-down of significant new releases available on streaming services. This week’s batch includes albums and EPs from Spoon, ANOHNI, Real Estate, Depeche Mode, and Rick Ross.
Spoon: Hot Thoughts [Matador]
Spoon’s new album is their first since 2014’s They Want My Soul. The album was co-produced by the band alongside Dave Fridmann. It features the title track and includes “Can I Sit Next to You,” which was played as American Airlines boarding music and by the house bands of the “Late Show with Stephen Colbert” and “Jimmy Kimmel Live” before anyone knew what it was.
ANOHNI: Paradise EP [Secretly Canadian/Rough Trade]
ANOHNI’s new EP, Paradise, is a companion piece to last year’s excellent album HOPELESSNESS. The EP, like the album, was made in collaboration with producers Oneohtrix Point Never and Hudson Mohawke. Fans can only receive the final song from Paradise, “I Never Stopped Loving You,” if they email ANOHNI “and share with me in a sentence or two what you care most about, or your hopes for the future.” Read our review of the title track.
Real Estate: In Mind [Domino]
Real Estate is back with their first new album since 2014’s Atlas. The album includes the previously shared tracks “Darling” and “Stained Glass” (which they previewed via a tutorial video). In Mind is the band’s first album since the departure of founding member and guitarist Matt Mondanile, who left last May citing a desire to focus on his own Ducktails project. The album features their new member, guitarist Julian Lynch. Read our review of “Darling.”
Depeche Mode: Spirit [Columbia]
Depeche Mode have released their follow-up to 2013’s Delta Machine. Spirit is produced by Simian Mobile Disco’s James Ford. The album is led by the song “Where’s the Revolution” and its video.
Rick Ross: Rather You Than Me [Def Jam]
After releasing Black Market in 2015, Rick Ross is back with Rather You Than Me. The album features Chris Rock, Nas, Young Thug, Wale, Future, Jeezy, Gucci Mane, Dej Loaf, Yo Gotti, Meek Mill, Ty Dolla $ign, and more. It includes the previously shared track “I Think She Like Me.”
