Afghan Whigs Guitarist Diagnosed With Cancer, Band to Play Benefit Shows

The Afghan Whigs recently announced a 20th-anniversary reissue of their record Black Love (out November 25 via Rhino/Mute). Today, they’ve announced a pair of shows where they’ll perform the album in full. The new concerts come in support of the band’s guitarist Dave Rosser (also of the Gutter Twins and Twilight Singers), who has been diagnosed with inoperable colon cancer. In a statement, Afghan Whigs’ Greg Dulli said:

Dave Rosser has been my close friend and bandmate for over a decade now. By doing these shows for him we hope to ease any financial stress he may face as he pursues treatment to combat his illness. 100% of the proceeds for these shows will go to his medical care. I’m hopeful that folks will come out and show their support for Dave who will be performing with us.

Afghan Whigs’ benefit shows are at New Orleans’ Civic Theatre on December 10, and Los Angeles’ Teragram Ballroom on December 14. The New Orleans show features performances from Mark Lanegan, Ani DiFranco, and more. Lanegan, Moby, and Carina Round will join Afghan Whigs for the Los Angeles show. Donate to Dave Rosser’s medical fund here.
