Alec Baldwin Opens “SNL” as Donald Trump and Covers Leonard Cohen’s “Hallelujah”

Mere days after the presidential election in November, Kate McKinnon opened “Saturday Night Live” by performing as Hillary Clinton and covering Leonard Cohen’s “Hallelujah.” Now, to close out its 42nd season, the show has borrowed from that moment for a very different kind of opening. Alec Baldwin, performing his now-famous Donald Trump impression, sat playing the same song while members of Trump’s family and administration slowly joined. Ivanka Trump (Scarlett Johansson), Vice President Mike Pence (Beck Bennett), Kellyanne Conway (Kate McKinnon), Eric and Donald Jr. (Mikey Day and Alex Moffat), Melania (Cecily Strong), Sarah Sanders (Aidy Bryant), and Steve Bannon all appeared. Watch below.

“I’m not giving up because I didn’t do anything wrong, but I can’t speak for these people,” Baldwin said, echoing in part what McKinnon told viewers in November. “I’m not giving up, and neither should you,” she said at the time.
