All Tomorrow's Parties' Drive Like Jehu-Curated Festival Cancelled

All Tomorrow’s Parties‘ Drive Like Jehu-curated festival at Victoria Warehouse in Manchester, England has been cancelled due to a “lack of financial viability,” the festival has announced. It was set to run from April 22-24. All ticket holders will be refunded, according to ATP. In a long Facebook post, Drive Like Jehu wrote that “ATP is out of funds,” continuing, “It’s a uniquely cruel hoax to appeal to Drive Like Jehu’s ego and ask us to create a program based on personally inviting the bands and musicians that have inspired us and changed the way we hear music and then subject them and their supporters to this.” Read their full post, accompanied by a picture of a toilet roll branded “ATP,” below.

The festival initially ran into problems in March, when the organizers had to relocate from Pontins Prestatyn to the Victoria Warehouse. On April 15, one week before the festival, headliner John Cale pulled out, saying, “We did our best to believe in the organizers, in the end, they let us all down.” Cale was slated to play both of ATP’s April festivals and cancelled both appearances. Following the latest cancellation, a further pair of ATP pop-up shows—by Soulside and the Gories/the Monkeywrench—have also been cancelled.

In recent years, ATP has struggled to put on its scheduled events. In 2012, ATP Concerts Ltd went into voluntary liquidation. In 2014, ATP cancelled Jabberwocky Festival, which was co-presented by Pitchfork and Primavera Sound. Founder Barry Hogan said then, “We have tried everything in our power to save this event and continue, but the losses we have recently incurred have unfortunately been too much for a company of our size to bear.”
