Amy Winehouse Gets Personal in Clip From New Documentary

Amy, BAFTA-winning director Asif Kapaida’s forthcoming documentary about the life of Amy Winehouse, arrives in British theaters July 3, with a separate U.S. release later this summer. Here’s our latest look at the film: a 52-second clip in which Winehouse belts to the camera, while Winehouse’s manager, Nick Schmansky, recalls her reticence to call herself a songwriter (she describes herself as a “poet” instead). There’s also a peek at Winehouse’s hand-written lyrics for her song “Cherry”, which later appeared on her album Frank. Watch below.

The new documentary has the subject of controversy as of late. Last month, members of the late singer’s family declared their dissociation from the film, describing it as “misleading”.

Amy Winehouse died from alcohol poisoning in July 2011.
