Apple Announces New Siri-Based Speaker System HomePod

Today, Apple unveiled its new HomePod smart speaker at the annual Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) in California. Boasting 360° audio and six microphones, the new speaker is integrated with Apple’s digital hands-free assistant Siri and also has the same A8 chip that’s found in iPhones. The HomePod is focused on music, with Apple stating that it “automatically analyzes the acoustics, adjusts the sound based on the speaker’s location, and steers the music in the optimal direction.” In addition to that, it can do other Siri-powered tasks (such as set reminders, do unit conversions, check traffic, and more). The HomePod is set to ship later this year and begins at $349.
