Arcade Fire's Will Butler Shares Song About Communism, Extends Tour

Every day this week, Arcade Fire‘s Will Butler is writing a new song based on a news story in The Guardian. Yesterday, he released “Clean Monday”, a song about the Greek debt crisis. Today’s track is “Waving Flag”, which is inspired by articles about anti-apartheid figure Moses Kotane and Ukranian separatists celebrating a holiday. Listen to it above, via The Guardian.

Butler wrote about “Waving Flag”:

This is a song about backward-looking violent nationalism contrasting with future-looking lift-up-the-weak nationalism. And then there’s me, a million miles away in America, watching from a great and blurring distance.

Butler has also extended his tour in support of his new solo album PolicyCheck out those dates below. Also, at SXSW, Butler will appear on a panel with his brother/bandmate Win and New York Times columnist Paul Krugman to talk about “the future of the music economy.”
