Beach House Announce Two-Piece "Installation" Shows

Beach House recently announced an extended tour behind last year’s Depression Cherry and Thank Your Lucky Stars, but they won’t just be playing big stages over the next several months. Today, the Baltimore band have announced a series of additional performances at art galleries, community centers, and similar venues this spring, which they’re billing as “installations.” At these shows, Victoria Legrand and Alex Scally will perform a continuous set—comprising songs from their self-titled debutDevotion, and Thank Your Lucky Stars—within a  “design” of their own creation. Find a full list of cities here, and check out the tour schedule below.

While Beach House point out that the installation performances are “by no means ‘stripped down’ or intentionally intimate,” the events will be capped at 200 audience members so everyone can see the duo’s setup. Since there will be no stage, audience members will have to sit on the floor. (As they noted in a press release: “bring a pillow!”)

Here’s the group’s explanation for the installations:

It has always been difficult to carry the initial moments of creativity that inspire our music through the process of making and releasing a record. There are many chances along the way for the feeling to get lost. A lot of “bedroom” bands experience this when they get to the studio or the stage. This installation performance is an attempt to elicit this pure, embryonic state of mind for ourselves and our audience.

The band also noted that the ticket prices will be “much higher” than their regular shows, due to the high production costs and limited occupancy. “The ticket price is set as low as possible in order to cover our costs and not lose money on the show,” they said. “We sincerely apologize if it’s unaffordable for any fans who may want to attend.”

Beach House will play this year’s Pitchfork Music Festival. (No pillows are required.) Read our feature on the band.
