Beach Slang Remove Guitarist Ruben Gallego Amid Sexual Assault Allegations

Tonight, Beach Slang will play the first show on their tour behind their new album A Loud Bash of Teenage Feelings. Ahead of the concert, the band have announced that guitarist Ruben Gallego has been removed from the band amid sexual assault allegations. They wrote on their Facebook that while “this occurred four years ago and prior to him joining Beach Slang, we cannot in good conscience continue with him.” As a result, frontman James Alex will perform solo acoustic sets on the tour. Pitchfork reached out to Beach Slang’s reps, who declined to provide further comment. Read the band’s full note below.

In the note, Beach Slang ensured their fans that the band “has always been and will always be a safe place for everyone.” They also announced that, at the end of the tour, they will make a donation to the Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network (RAINN)–an anti-sexual assault organization–and advocated for their resources.
