Beck, Elliott Smith-Starring Cult Classic Southlander Gets Reissue

Southlander is a 2001 cult film about a struggling Los Angeles musician played by Rory Cochrane (Empire RecordsDazed and Confused) who gets into a series of adventures. It features performances from musicians like Beck, Beth Orton, Billy Higgins, and Hank Williams III. Elliott Smith also makes a cameo, as do Laura Prepon (“That ’70s Show”) and Ione Skye (Say Anything). It’s been out of print for a while, but the movie is getting remastered ahead of a June 14 reissue. Watch a trailer below. Update (5/11 7:38 a.m.): The film’s co-writer and star, Ross Harris, says he wasn’t consulted about the reissue. See his tweet below.

When people reissue a movie you made in the 90′s without consulting you. #surprise https://t.co/o7UZy54O5j
