Beyoncé Drops "Formation"

Beyoncé Drops "Formation"

One day before she performs with Coldplay at Super Bowl 50, Beyoncé has dropped a new single called “Formation.” The song is her first since 2014′s Beyoncé. Check out the video, artwork, and track below. The song was reportedly produced by Mike WiLL Made-It and co-written by Rae Sremmurd’s Swae Lee. Grab a free download here.

The video features shots of Beyoncé lying on top of a New Orleans police car that’s submerged in water. At different points she hangs out of a car window and dances in an antebellum era home. At one point there’s a line of police officers with their hands up; they’re standing across from a wall tagged with the words “stop shooting us.” Her daughter, Blue Ivy Carter, makes an appearance.

Various hints surfaced that a new song was coming, including reports that she was shooting a video in Los Angeles and New Orleans and photos of a pasteboard containing the song’s title.

She’s also released a line of “Formation” merch.

Update (2/6, 5:33 p.m.): Beyoncé’s sister Solange has tweeted her support. Check it out below. Just yesterday, Solange was awarded the key to New Orleans.
