Bill Murray and Phoenix Putting out Christmas Single
Bill Murray’s Sofia Coppola-directed Christmas special A Very Murray Christmas airs on Netflix on December 4. Among the all-star guests are Jenny Lewis, George Clooney, Amy Poehler, Michael Cera, Miley Cyrus, Chris Rock, Jason Schwartzman, and Maya Rudolph. Phoenix also appear, but the band’s yuletide partnership with Murray extends beyond the screen.
As Exclaim! points out (via Modern Vinyl), Phoenix will team up with the actor for a 7-inch titled Alone on Christmas Day, which will be released on December 4 (the same day the special comes out). The A-side comprises the titular track as performed by Phoenix, Murray, Schwartzman, former “Letterman” musical director Paul Shaffer, and New York Dolls’ David Johansen, in his Buster Poindexter (“Hot Hot Hot”) alias. The b-side features an instrumental version of the track.
