Billy Corgan Back on Twitter

Billy Corgan Back on Twitter

In October of last year, Billy Corgan shut down his Twitter account. He instead decided to focus on his art, design, and photography blog called People and Their Cars. That blog hasn’t been updated since February, and two days ago, Billy quietly revived @Billy. So far, he has two tweets (not including retweets). Here’s the first one:

With every ending…

Comes a new beginning…

Corgan was just promoted to the new president of Impact Ventures—TNA Wrestling’s parent company. He was previously a senior producer at TNA Wrestling. His second tweet addresses that promotion:

For those who doubted my commitment, thank you for pushing me to the top! (But seriously I’m thrilled by the opportunity)

Corgan discussed his feelings about social media and Twitter in an interview with Alex Jones that’s titled “Billy Corgan: Why I Left Twitter.” He repeatedly criticized what he called the “hashtag generation” in an interview where he also compared “social justice warriors” to the KKK. At one point, he posited that individuals’ participation in social media was potentially harmful to their communities.

“Take any social media system—Facebook, Snapchat, Twitter, Instagram. Is your participation in those systems actually making your life worse on some level? Now most people would laugh at that. ‘What does that mean? Just because I retweet a couple pictures or whatever?’ Well if you’re supporting things that are ultimately hurting your community, then that argument could be made.”

He also referenced social media feed algorithms, saying, “Twitter has been caught suppressing and deleting things.” Watch those comments happen below beginning at the 20:20 mark.
