Blowfly Has Terminal Liver Cancer, Releasing Final Album Next Month

Clarence Reid—the Miami R&B artist and songwriter who makes filthy party rap records under the name Blowfly—has entered hospice care today. According to a note on his Facebook page, he has been diagnosed with terminal liver cancer and is suffering from multiple organ failure.

According to the note, he’s releasing his final album 77 Rusty Trombones next month. Blowfly’s frequent collaborator Tom Bowker is encouraging fans to send notes, art, photos, and more to Reid. Find an address here.

Reid is a prolific artist who wrote for artists like KC & the Sunshine Band, Sam & Dave, Irma Thomas, and many others. He also released a series of singles and solo records under his given name. Blowfly is his mask-wearing, outrageous, sexually-charged persona.
