Bob Dylan was the musical guest on David Letterman’s second-to-last “Late Show”. It was Dylan’s first appearance on Letterman’s show in 22 years. He played “The Night We Called It a Day”, which appears on his most recent album Shadows in the Night.

Dylan’s last “Late Show” appearance happened during Dave’s first season on CBS back in 1993. Before that, he appeared on Letterman’s NBC show “Late Night” in 1984 and on the show’s 10th anniversary in 1992. Read the story behind Dylan’s first “Late Night” appearance over at Vulture, watch Paul Shaffer tell stories about talking to Dylan backstage here, and find some of Dylan’s early “Letterman” appearances below.

The episode also featured an interview with Bill Murray, who was Letterman’s first guest on “Late Night” in 1982.
