Bon Iver’s New Song “33 ‘God’” Samples Paolo Nutini

Bon Iver’s New Song “33 ‘God’” Samples Paolo Nutini

In the early hours this morning, Bon Iver shared a new track from their forthcoming LP, 22, A Million. Now, Justin Vernon has confirmed on Twitter that, as several fans speculated, the song samples Paolo Nutini. The track in question is “Iron Sky,” from Nutini’s 2014 album Caustic Love; the line “We find God and religions” has been lifted for the bridge. (It has been edited to make the “We” sound like “I.”) Listen to the original below (the lyric comes 56 seconds in), as well as “33 ‘God’,” where the sample appears at 1:12. “33 ‘God’” also samples Lonnie Holley’s “All Rendered Truth,” a Jagjaguwar rep confirmed. Hear Holley’s song below; the sample begins at 38 seconds, and appears in Bon Iver’s track at 2:50.

But for real though, I’m dying over here, DID JUSTIN VERNON SAMPLE PAOLO NUTINI ON 33 “GOD”?!?!
