It’s a good month to be a George Harrison fan. On September 22, Universal will release The Apple Years 1968-75, a six-cd box set containing the late Beatles guitarist’s first six albums and plenty of unreleased ephemera (including a song featuring the Eurythmics’ Dave Stewart, plus Ringo Starr on drums). On the heels of that release, George Harrison’s estate has announced a benefit show called George Fest: A Night to Celebrate the Music of George Harrison. The concert will be held September 28 at Los Angeles’ El Rey theatre, and a slew of musicians have signed on to pay their respects – including Brian Wilson, the Flaming Lips’ Wayne Coyne and Stephen Drozd, the Killers’ Brandon Flowers and Mark Stoermer, “Weird Al” Yankovic, Spoon’s Britt Daniel, and Cold War Kids.

Members of Weezer, the Cult, the Strokes, and others will also perform, along with special guests who have yet to be announced. Check out the full lineup here.

All proceeds from the concert will go to Sweet Relief, a non-profit that provides financial support for struggling musicians.

Back in 2009, My Morning Jacket’s Jim James released an album of George Harrison covers (released under the name Yim Yames) called Tribute ToHe is not currently on the bill.

Harrison passed away in 2001 from lung cancer at the age of 58.

Below, watch Eric Clapton, Tom Petty, and others perform at a 2003 Harrison Benefit, and check out the trailer for the new box set.
