Bringing Fireworks to UK Festivals Could Now Land You in Jail
The UK government has banned flares, smoke bombs, fireworks, and a broad swath of other pyrotechnics from music festivals across England and Wales. As NME points out (via lawyers at VHS Fletchers and Kingsley Napley), “pyrotechnic articles” of all kinds are banned. (Matches are not.) The law carries a possible fine and/or jail sentence of up to three months, which could rise to up to 51 weeks if combined with another offense. A pyrotechnic is described as “an article that contains explosive substances, or an explosive mixture of substances, designed to produce heat, light, sound, gas or smoke, or a combination of such effects, through self-sustained exothermic chemical reactions.”
The United States does not have a federal law regarding pyrotechnics at music festivals. Individual events may ban audience members from bringing them, but every state has different laws regarding fireworks possession.
