Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band Cover David Bowie's "Rebel Rebel"

Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band kicked off “The River Tour” last night in Pittsburgh in support of Springsteen‘s The Ties That Bind: The River Collection. During the show, they paid tribute to David Bowie, covering his “Rebel Rebel.” Watch it below.

Bowie had actually covered Springsteen in the past. Bowie’s 1989 box set Sound + Vision includes a cover of Springsteen’s “It’s Hard to Be a Saint in the City” from his 1973 debut album Greetings from Asbury Park, N.J. Update (1/17 12:26 p.m.): As reader Robert Gallagher points out, Bowie has also covered Springsteen’s “Growin’ Up.”

Bowie was recently honored with a lightning-bolt shaped constellation. Yesterday, Arcade Fire the Preservation Hall Jazz Band paid tribute with a memorial parade in New Orleans.
