Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau Pays Tribute to the Tragically Hip: Watch

The Tragically Hip played their final show earlier tonight in Kingston, Ontario, and Canadian prime minister Justin Trudeau was at the Rogers K-Rock Centre to celebrate the band’s long and storied career. In an interview with CBC Music, Trudeau reflects on the band’s innate Canadian nature, and acknowledges his own “mixed feelings” about sending the band off (lead singer Gord Downie was diagnosed with terminal brain cancer last December). Watch that below. During their final show, Downie shouted out the prime minister, thanking him for coming to the concert.

Thank you, Gord. #courage pic.twitter.com/kpLKVzfY63

On behalf of Canadians, I thank Gord Downie and the Hip for their decades of service to Canadian music. Forever in our hearts and playlists.
