Chance the Rapper Meeting With Illinois Governor This Week

Chance the Rapper Meeting With Illinois Governor This Week

After Chance the Rapper’s three Grammy victoriesIllinois governor Bruce Rauner shared his congratulations publicly. “Illinois is proud that you’re one of our own,” he tweeted. Chance replied, “Thank you Governor, I would love to have meeting with you this week if possible.” That private meeting will now take place this Wednesday. Chance announced on Twitter that they will get together to “address funding education in Chicago.” The Rauner Administration confirmed to Pitchfork that “the governor will meet with Chance this week to discuss important issues affecting the state.” The administration confirmed the meeting to the Chicago Tribune, as well. See Chance the Rapper and Gov. Rauner’s tweets below. Pitchfork has reached out to Chance’s representatives for more information and comment.

Recently, Chance responded to Donald Trump’s tweet where he threatened to “send in the Feds” to Chicago. “I hope he’s coming in to do some type of federal overturn of our state and city budgets in terms of schooling and housing,” he said. “It sounds like he was announcin’ he was going to war with Chicago.”

I’m meeting privately with the governor Wednesday. The two of us will address funding education in Chicago. I’m eager to hear his ideas.
