Chance the Rapper on IL Governor Meeting: “He Gave Me a Lot of Vague Answers”
Chance the Rapper and Illinois governor Bruce Rauner met today to discuss education in Chicago and other “important issues affecting the state.” Speaking after the meeting, Chance said he was “a little bit flustered, just a little bit frustrated,” and that “it went a little different than it should have.” He added that Gov. Rauner “gave [him] a lot of vague answers, so we’ll see what happens.”
Chance said he asked specially “about funding [Chicago Public Schools] with that $215 million that was discussed in May of last year, and was vetoed in December.” At another point, he said, “The kids are on the table right now. And, we spoke for a second, it sounded like it was going to—it sounded like we were going somewhere, but it sounds like it’s hinged on passing other bills. I’m not a politician. I’m here ’cause I’m a dad, I’m an after-school teacher.”
In addition, Chance called on “the international and national publications” to “give a comprehensive history of how we ended up here,” regarding Chicago’s public schools. The meeting lasted about 30 minutes, according to the Chicago Sun-Times. Find Chance’s post-meeting remarks and tweets below.
