Chance the Rapper Shares Social Experiment Track "Sunday Candy"

Chance the Rapper‘s new album Surf, recorded with his band the Social Experiment, is on the way. Today, he’s shared a new track from the record via The Fader. That’s “Sunday Candy” above.

The Acid Rap follow-up is credited to Donnie Trumpet and the Social Experiment. The band features Chance, Donnie Trumpet (real name: Nico Segal), Peter Cottontale, and Nate Fox. “Sunday Candy” features vocals from Jamila Woods.

In a Billboard interview, Chance called Surf “the first Social Experiment project” rather than a proper Chance the Rapper release. It’s set to feature contributions from Francis Starlite of Francis and the Lights.

Segal discussed the new song with The Fader, emphasizing that Surf is primarily his project (as the artwork above suggests):

“We’re working on all this music together, but this project in particular is a Donnie Trumpet project. My music, with their influence and ideas, plus us all coming up with crazy shit to do. But at the end of the day, it’s my directing.

“This song specifically is a great representation of [The Social Experiment's] collaborative efforts. It’s my curation, but then bringing it to the table with all these beautiful people and including them in their own way. Jamila sang on that hook, then I brought it to the collective. Peter added some great layers of texture and helped produce, Nate added a bunch of drums, tons of our friends from Chicago played instruments and added their ideas.”
