Chvrches, Mogwai, Twilight Sad Members to Sell Newspapers in Scotland

The International Network of Street Papers (INSP) is a Glasgow-based charity that supports independent newspapers distributed by homeless and long-term unemployed vendors. As part of a UK-wide #VendorWeek Big Sell initiative, members of Scottish bands including ChvrchesMogwai, and the Twilight Sad will hit the streets to sell copies of one such publication, The Big Issue.

On February 4 and 5 in Glasgow and Edinburgh, Chvrches’ Lauren Mayberry, Mogwai’s Stuart Braithwaite, the Twilight Sad’s James Graham, and others will spend an hour selling papers. They’ll be mentored by Big Issue vendors, and in addition to actually buying a paper from them, you can sponsor your favorite artist (and by doing so, contribute to INSP’s poverty-reduction cause) here.

The INSP shared this statement from Mayberry:

“As a long time supporter of the work of The Big Issue, I am honoured to be supporting them and INSP during #VendorWeek 2015. Schemes like these empower people dealing with unemployment and homelessness to help themselves and change their circumstances, and I hope we can raise a lot of money to help continue this important work.”

Here’s Graham’s statement:

“I can’t remember a time where The Big Issue hasn’t been around, and to me, that means it is being consistently helpful and successful in getting people back on the road to full time employment. I feel privileged to have been asked to take part and I’m looking forward to the experience and spreading the word. An hour out of my day is the least I can do and £2.50 out of your pocket isn’t that much for a good read with the added bonus of knowing you are really helping someone.
