Mortified is a series in which adults share the awkward, embarrassing material of their youth, be they love letters, poems, diary entries, etc. This week on the Mortified Podcast, they debuted a new segment called “The Mortified Muse”, in which artists turn this emotionally-driven teenage flotsam into songs.

The first act to get involved are Chvrches, who stopped by the show to do a take on a song penned by one Nat Miller to his crush Laurel at age of 14. Appropriately titled for Nat’s object of affection, “Laurel” features all the cringeworthy lyrics one would expect from a high-school poet.

Listen to the entire podcast above; Chvrches perform “Laurel” at the 25-minute mark.
