Cirque du Soleil Sue Justin Timberlake Over "Don’t Hold the Wall"

Justin Timberlake has been sued by Cirque du Soleil over his 20/20 Experience song “Don’t Hold the Wall,” Variety reports. The lawsuit asserts that Timbaland (who produced Timberlake’s track) sampled “Steel Dream” (a song from the show’s stage production and 1997 album Quidam) without Cirque’s permission. In addition to Timberlake and Timbaland, Cirque du Soleil names co-writers J-Roc and James Fauntleroy, as well as Sony Entertainment, Universal Music, and WB Music Corp as defendants in the suit, which is seeking $800,000 in copyright infringement damages.

Earlier this year, Timberlake’s label Universal Music Group was sued over “Suit & Tie,” also from 20/20. In that suit, two members of Sly, Slick & Wicked claim that they did not give UMG the rights to their vocal performances from “Sho’ Nuff,” the 1973 song sampled in “Suit & Tie.” They also say that UMG owes them money from a Bud Light ad that used Timberlake’s song.
