Coachella 2017: Radiohead’s Set Interrupted by Technical Problems

Radiohead took the stage tonight to perform their headlining set at Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival in Indio, California. Three songs into their show, the band were met with a sudden slew of technical problems, including a complete sound dropout and several bursts of violent feedback. The glitches affected not only the main stage speakers but also the live stream audio. “Fuckin’ aliens again,” Thom Yorke said to the crowd. The first sound dropout occurred during “Ful Stop,” while the second happened during “15 Step,” with the second audio dropout lasting for most of the song.

Radiohead continued to play through “15 Step” before the stage went dark. They came back out after a brief break to perform “The National Anthem” (although some audio problems persisted) and continued the show after that. Another audio malfunction took out the main stage speakers near the end of “Let Down,” after which the band left the stage once again. Radiohead returned a second time, with Yorke directly addressing the crowd before launching into “Street Spirit (Fade Out)”: “Can you actually hear me now?” he asked. “I’d love to tell you a joke, lighten the mood, something like that. But this is Radiohead, so fuck it.” Before playing “Creep,” Yorke half-joked, “Something funny happened on the way to the festival tonight… oh, no it didn’t.”
