Common, John Legend Win Golden Globe for Best Original Song, Jóhann Jóhannsson Wins Best Original Score

Tonight Tina Fey and Amy Poehler hosted the 72nd Golden Globes. Lana Del Rey, Lorde, Trent Reznor, Patti Smith, Common, Jóhann Jóhannsson and Sia were all up for awards.

Jóhann Jóhannsson won the Best Original Score Golden Globe for “The Theory of Everything”, amid a field that also included nominees Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross, who were nominated for scoring David Fincher’s Gone Girl (they won the award in 2011 for composing the score to The Social Network).

Prince presented the award for Best Original Song, Motion Picture, which was awarded to Common and John Legend for their Selma song, “Glory”. During their acceptance speech, Common gave an acceptance speech that concluded, “Selma is now”.

Other tracks nominated for the award of Best Original Song, Motion Picture included Lana Del Rey’s “Big Eyes”, penned for the Tim Burton film of the same title, Lorde’s “Yellow Flicker Beat” (from The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1 soundtrack), and Patti Smith’s “Mercy Is” (composed alongside Kronos Quartet and Clint Mansell for the Noah soundtrack), and the Sia collaboration with Greg Kurstin and Will Gluck, “Opportunity” (Annie).
