Dave Grohl and Jack Black Goof Off in Clip From Rye Coalition Documentary Story of the Hard Luck 5

The Story of the Hard Luck 5 is a new documentary about the New Jersey band Rye Coalition. Directed by Jenni Matz, it’s out digitally and on DVD on January 13. Today, a clip from the film has been posted on Pitchfork.tv. Focusing on the time after Rye Coalition signed their ill-fated record deal with Dreamworks, it features footage of Dave Grohl and Jack Black goofing off at Sound City Studios as Rye Coalition recorded their Grohl-produced album Curses. Rye Coalition’s tour opening for Foo Fighters in Europe is also covered, and Grohl is interviewed.Steve Albini, Jon Theodore (Queens of the Stone Age), Tim Green (Nation of Ulysses), Jared Warren (Melvins), and Allison Wolfe (Bratmobile) also appear in the film.

The film’s release party will take place on December 13 at WFMU’s Monty Hall, and it will feature a live performance from Rye Coalition. Find info here.
