David Bowie’s Lazarus Musical Gets VR Experience

David Bowie’s Lazarus musical, which he co-wrote with Enda Walsh based on the Walter Tevis novel The Man Who Fell to Earth, concluded its London run earlier this year. Those who missed it will soon have an opportunity to experience the show in virtual reality. Footage of the production will be screened on April 30 at the Lydia & Manfred Gorvy Lecture Theatre during the V&A’s 2017 Performance Festival. At the event, the recording process will be explained and attendees will be invited to view the show through a VR headset. The museum recorded the production during a show at King’s Cross Theatre in January. Lazarus was directed by Ivo Van Hove, and starred Michael C. Hall, Michael Esper, and Sophia Anne Caruso.

Along with the Lazarus screening, a panel of filmmakers from the V&A and the Royal Shakespeare Company will discuss the practice of capturing theater on film, opening with the National Theatre’s production of Richard III. The V&A’s 2017 Performance Festival runs from April 21 to 30, and admission to most events is free. Find more information about the event here.
