Desiigner Drug Charge Based on False Information: Report

Desiigner may be able to fend off another criminal charge stemming from his arrest Thursday night after a road rage incident in New York City. A New York Police Department spokesperson initially told Pitchfork the charges against Desiigner (real name: Sidney Royel Selby III) were possession of a loaded weapon, possession of a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell, and menacing (for threatening another driver with a gun.) Over the weekend, court records showed that prosecutors had dropped the loaded weapon and intent-to-sell charges, both felonies, leaving Desiigner facing only misdemeanor charges.

Now, TMZ reports that the controlled substances in the SUV in which Desiigner was riding were all steroids and apparently belonged to the driver, not to the rapper. TMZ had previously reported that police said they found Oxycontin, methadone, and steroids in the vehicle.

A spokesperson for the New York district attorney’s office declined Pitchfork’s request for comment.
