DJ Shadow to Release Endtroducing… Remix Album Featuring Clams Casino, Hudson Mohawke, More

DJ Shadow is working on a remix album of his seminal 1996 debut LP Endtroducing…, featuring contributions from a variety of artists, including Clams Casino and Hudson Mohawke. The news was revealed during Shadow’s talk with Clams for the latest episode of the Talkhouse Music Podcast, premiered on Pitchfork Radio today. “This year is the twentieth anniversary of Entroducing…, so curating this remix album, I wanted to provide another layer of perspective on the record and invite my current favorites and a few favorites from other eras to do remixes,” said Shadow. There is no word yet on a release date or full tracklist for the album, or which track Clams Casino took on, though HudMo’s remix of “Midnight in a Perfect World” surfaced earlier this year.

Shadow went on to praise Clams (who was in elementary school when the original album was released) on his remix. “I listened to it and I loved it, but in the back of my mind I got really worried because I was thinking, ‘shit did he send a demo of, like, somebody else’s track? I hope this is mine!’ ‘Cause I couldn’t recognize any of the elements in mine, even though there were so many things about it that seemed familiar.”

“I mean I’m really honored to, you know, be a part of [this remix album],” Clams said. “[The track I picked to remix] sounded like something that I would just pick out and sample otherwise, you know, so I immediately knew just the mood of the original track and stuff and also that there’s so many different parts to use.”

During the chat, the two producers also discussed innovations in recording and sampling, each of their own newest records, and the internal struggle of giving rappers beats that you were saving for your own album. Listen to the full podcast above or here.
