Drake’s VIEWS Reaches No. 1, Breaks Streaming Record

Drake's VIEWS Reaches No. 1, Breaks Streaming Record

It was previously reported that Drake‘s new album VIEWS had sold over 1 million copies (including streaming album equivalents). It’s now been confirmed that VIEWS is the No. 1 album on the Billboard 200 chart. It has broken the record for album streams in a single week, Billboard reports. VIEWS songs were streamed 245.1 million times in the U.S. The record was previously held by Justin Bieber’s Purpose, which amassed just over 100 million plays in its debut week. It’s the biggest sales week for any album in 2016 and a personal best for Drake.

Earlier this year, Kanye West’s The Life of Pablo reached a streaming milestone, as well. It was the first album to reach the top of the charts with more than half of its units generated from streaming.

VIEWS was initially available only on Apple Music and the iTunes Store. On May 6, the album got a physical release and became available on all digital download retailers. On May 13, the Apple Music exclusivity expires and the album will expand to all streaming platforms.
