Elton John Denies Trump Advisor’s Claim That He’s Performing at Inauguration

Recently, one of President-elect Donald Trump’s key advisors said that Elton John would perform at the January 20 inauguration. In an interview on BBC’s “HARDtalk,” Anthony Scaramucci–a member of the executive committee of Trump’s transition team–said, “Elton John is going to be doing our concert on the Mall for the inauguration,” and spoke about his and Trump’s support of LGBTQ rights. Elton John’s reps, however, have confirmed to Pitchfork that the artist will not perform at the White House on January 20. “This is incorrect. Elton will not be performing at Trump’s inauguration,” the rep wrote in an email. Below, see an excerpt of Scaramucci’s interview.

Elton John was an ardent Hillary Clinton supporter during her campaign. In March, he and Katy Perry performed at an “I’m With Her Concert” at New York’s Radio City Music Hall. He also appeared at an October fundraiser, where he said, “We need a humanitarian in the White House, not a barbarian,” and that he loves Clinton for standing for “equality, decency, kindness and respect.”

Recently, Mötley Crüe’s Vince Neil said that he was going to perform at Trump’s inauguration. Shortly thereafter, he said that he had been “uninvited.” Although not offered, RiFF RAFF said that he’d play for $50,000.
