Father John Misty: “I Ride for Nickelback”

Father John Misty: “I Ride for Nickelback”

Nickelback are a Canadian rock band that a whole bunch of people love to hate. After the Chainsmokers were recently called “The Nickelback of EDM,” Father John Misty has now rushed to the defense of Chad Kroeger’s music. In the below interview with NME, he declared, “I will ride for Nickelback.” After he read the Chainsmokers comparison, he specifically sang the praises of “How You Remind Me,” saying, “That’s a fucking great song. Have you heard that song? It’s great.” When asked what he liked about the song, he replied:

“I don’t know. That’s the problem with the internet and social media and stuff: the stuff that you like, you can’t say what it is that you like about something. If you like something, it’s supposed to be beyond the intellectual. But I will ride for Nickelback—I want that on the record. ‘Farmer John Misery: I ride for Nickelback.’”

Father John Misty’s new album Pure Comedy is out April 7 via Sub Pop/Bella Union.
