“No, I have no interest in writing about love anymore, for a while,” he said. “I’m kind of worn out on that. I’m proud of it—I feel like for me it was an accomplishment. At the time that I undertook it, it felt so far out of my wheelhouse.”

He continued: “I feel like writing about intimacy afforded me a real unexpected level of clarity and kind of turning that perspective outward, that’s essentially what the next album is all about.”

Tillman also said that Honeybear cuts “Bored in the USA” and “Holy Shit” are most indicative of where his material is heading. He also said the album after that follow-up will be “the vodka album,” following in the tradition of many drunk songwriters before him.
