Foo Fighters Release "Something From Nothing" From New Album Sonic Highways

As previously reportedFoo Fighters‘ new album Sonic Highways arrives November 10. It was recorded in eight studios in eight different American cities, and will be previewed in a new HBO documentary series, directed by Dave Grohl, called “Foo Fighters: Sonic Highways” that premieres tomorrow night. Today, the band shared “Something From Nothing”, which will appear on Sonic Highways, on Zane Lowe’s BBC Radio 1 show. You can listen to it below.

“Something From Nothing” was recorded at Steve Albini’s Electrical Audio studio in Chicago. (Albini also worked with Nirvana on In Utero.) The first episode of “Sonic Highways” is set in Chicago and features interviews with Albini, Buddy Guy, and Cheap Trick’s Rick Nielsen. On tomorrow night, right after the episode airs, HBO will host a live stream of the Foos’ record release show at the Cubby Bear in Chicago. (As a teenager, Grohl went to his first punk show at the Cubby Bear.) The band will take the stage at midnight Eastern time, and play cuts from the new record. Fans can catch the stream over on HBO’s Facebook page.

The TV series chronicles the making of Sonic Highways through interviews and collaborations with local artists in each city (Chicago, Austin, New York, Los Angeles, Seattle, Nashville, New Orleans, Washington, DC). Artists such as LCD Soundsystem’s James Murphy, Fugazi/Minor Threat’s Ian MacKaye, Beastie Boys’ Mike D, Pharrell Williams, Public Enemy’s Chuck D, Queens of the Stone Age’s Josh Homme, the Black Keys’ Dan Auerbach, Willie Nelson, Coldplay’s Chris Martin, and Joan Jett are interviewed.

Sonic Highways is available in nine different covers: one for each of the cities it was recorded in, plus one “forever” cover. Check out all the covers here. The cover above is the Chicago one.

All this week, Foo Fighters have been the musical guests on “Letterman”, with a variety of collaborators. Watch all those videos here.
