Frank Ocean Producer Malay Launches New Record Label

James Ho (aka Malay), the producer who worked with Frank Ocean on Channel Orange and Blonde, has launched a new record label imprint under BMG, Billboard reports. The label is still in its beginning stages—it does not yet have a name—but Malay wants to use it as a springboard to break new artists and help cultivate talent. In a quote, the producer says that the goal is “finding some classic, timeless artists that are impactful and still very musical and anti-gimmick.”

The new label was apparently established as the result of a conversation between Malay and BMG president Zach Katz about “a forthcoming collaboration album” from the producer. While that album has not been announced, Malay has been teasing something called “the Booty Club” for weeks, uploading an Instagram post in October with the caption, “Booty Club Ft. Frank Ocean.” Speaking to Billboard, Malay also discusses his work with former One Direction member Zayn Malik, who may be working with Indian composer A.R. Rahman.
