French Montana was the guest on yesterday’s episode of “Larry King Now.” They hit on a bunch of topics during the interview, including French’s upcoming album Mac & Cheese 4, the movie he’s in (The Perfect Match) his dream collaborations (Biggie, 2Pac, and…Coldplay!), being a Muslim in America, Khloé Kardashian, and more. They also talked about Kanye West.

At one point, King brought up Rhymefest’s comments about Kanye West. Last month the West collaborator tweeted, “my brother needs help, in the form of counseling. Spiritual & mental. He should step away from the public & yesmen & heal.” King asked, “Does Kanye West have problems?” French responded:

Man, I just spoke to him yesterday. He don’t sound like he have problems. I just feel like Kanye West is a genius, and all the moves he do is calculated. So, everything he says makes headlines. Yeah, there’s a method to his madness.

King then brought up Taylor Swift’s acceptance speech at the Grammys for Album of the Year, during which she may have subtly taken a shot at West’s “I made that bitch famous” line about her from The Life of Pablo‘s “Famous.” French said:

That’s the thing about that. He’s so powerful that you felt his impact in that building without him even being there. So, it was either they was talking about him, or you felt like he was gonna come out of nowhere and hit Taylor Swift with a elbow. You didn’t know what was gonna happen, but you felt his impact.

King then said, “He has called her a bitch. She resents that. He said it’s a compliment.” He asked, “Do you use the word ‘bitch’ in any situation?” French answered, “Sometimes. Sometimes it can be a compliment. It depends on my tone when I say it.” When pressed, “Do you think Kanye West means it badly?” he said, “Nah, I think he means it in the good sense.”

Later, King asked about the controversy behind West’s one-time album title Waves. French explained:

A friend of mine–his name is Max B, he’s incarcerated right now, doing 75 years–and “waves” was his thing. That was how everybody knew him. His name was Silver Surfer. So, I just feel like a lot of the people that followed the movement kind of took offense to that because, you know, it looked like he just took his whole style, which he actually didn’t know about Max B, you know, so when I spoke to him now I gave him all the info, you know, about Max B. Max B ended up on Kanye’s album.…Yeah, but he changed it to The Life of Pablo, but he still put Max B on the album ’cause he’s got another song called “Waves.”

King concluded the segment asking, “Does Kanye West like being controversial?” French answered plainly, “Of course.”

French Montana released his Wave Gods mixtape earlier this year. The tape includes “Figure It Out” with Kanye West and Nas. According to the interview, French’s upcoming album will feature West, Lil Wayne, Miguel, Big Sean, and Travis Scott. King says it’s out this month.

In the past, Tyler, the Creator, Morrissey, and Joanna Newsom have all appeared on “Larry King Now.”
