Get Out Star Daniel Kaluuya Says His Character Is “Like J. Cole”

English actor and Get Out star Daniel Kaluuya has done a new interview with GQ, in which he talks about the success of the new Jordan Peele-directed horror comedy and his experience as a non-American black actor. At one point, he compares his Get Out character, Chris, to J. Cole. “He [Chris] feels like an everyman. He’s kind of like J. Cole,” he said. “Chris is that guy that everyone knows, who has been in everyone’s class at school. That good guy from around the area.”

Later on in the interview, when asked about what music he’s been listening to, Kaluuya replies, “I’m listening to Stormzy’s new album. J-Hus is amazing, Giggs is tough. Childish Gambino’s new album is hard.” (Childish Gambino’s “Redbone” was featured prominently in the opening credits for Get Out.)
