Gorillaz Cartoon Drummer Russel on New Album: “What is Coming Will Come”

Gorillaz cartoon drummer Russel Hobbs was recently interviewed by Puss Puss Magazine—“the magazine for fashion, art, culture and cat lovers”—as the Fader points out. Russel talks about his favorite hip-hop artists—he names Biggie, MF Doom, and Earl Sweatshirt—as well as sneakers, his recent kidnapping by North Korea, and cats (his favorite is the Devon Rex). When asked about the new Gorillaz album and future plans for the band, he had only this to say: “You can expect whatever you like. What is coming will come, whether you expect it or not. What’s important isn’t what’s happening next, but what’s happening right now. That’s all you can control.” Read the full interview here.

Apropos of Russel’s interview, the next Gorillaz album appears imminent. Band co-founders Damon Albarn and Jamie Hewlett were seen in the studio earlier this year. Meanwhile, cartoon guitarist Noodle was recently named the new global ambassador for car manufacturer Jaguar’s Formula E racing team.
