Gorillaz Partner With Jaguar Formula E Racing

Earlier this month, Gorillaz shared a new multimedia story called “The Book of Noodle.” Now, the cartoon guitarist has been named the new global ambassador for Jaguar Racing. The goal of the new partnership is to inspire the next generation of young engineers—particularly women—alongside efforts to develop the next generation of electric-powered road cars. Noodle’s role will make her a “flag-bearer for Jaguar’s newly launched Formula E [electric car racing] team,” according to a press release. Below, watch her race in a short film directed by Gorillaz’ Jamie Hewlett. “The young minds of today are the engineers of tomorrow,” Noodle said in a statement. “We are in the driving seat and our imaginations are the fuel. It’s time to lead the charge and build a better world!”

Signs seem to indicate that Gorillaz are working on a new album. Studio footage of Albarn and Hewlett surfaced this past spring, and Snoop Dogg and De La Soul have been confirmed as collaborators for the new project. According to an interview between Noodle and Jaguar engineer Charanya Ravi, the Jaguar project sees Noodle “moonlighting from a secret mission to revolutionise music all over again.”

In the interview, Noodle says of Formula E:

It’s a baby – just two years old – and it only uses electric cars. Think of all the research and development into electrical engines! It will have benefits for the whole world, so I want to nurture it, support it and help it grow strong. Like one of those Tamagotchi. Remember them? Japanese invention.
