Grammys 2017: David Bowie Wins First Ever Musical Awards

David Bowie has won Best Engineered Album, Non-Classical and Best Alternative Album for Blackstar and Best Rock Performance for the album’s title track at the 59th Annual Grammy Awards. For the first award, he won as an engineer alongside Tom Elmhirst, Kevin Killen, Tony Visconti, and master engineer Joe LaPorta. Remarkably, the awards are David Bowie’s first-ever Grammy wins for musical awards.

Bowie’s son, Duncan Jones, tweeted this:

So proud of you dad!
Would hold you up forever.

Andrew Bird’s Are You Serious, Bonnie Raitt’s Dig in Deep, Prince’s HITNRUN Phase Two, and Sarah Jarosz’s Undercurrent were also nominated for Best Engineered Album. “Blackstar” beat out songs by Beyoncé and Jack White, Alabama Shakes, Disturbed, and Twenty One Pilots.
