Grateful Dead’s Bob Weir Shares New Song With the National Members: Listen

On September 30, Bob Weir, formerly of the Grateful Dead (and currently of Dead & Company), will release his first new solo record in a decade. Blue Mountain (out via Columbia/Legacy Recordings) is also Weir’s first LP of entirely new material in 30 years. Today, he’s shared the album-opening track “Only a River.” It features performances by Aaron Dessner (electric guitar) and Scott Devendorf (bass, vocals) of the National. Josh Kaufman, Ray Rizzo, and Rob Burger also play on the song. Hear “Only a River” below, via NPR.

Earlier this year, Aaron Dessner and his twin brother Bryce produced the massive Grateful Dead tribute album Day of the Dead. This past weekend, they brought together a group of musicians to perform songs from the album at Eaux Claires Music & Arts Festival. Among those who played with the Dessners were Bon Iver’s Justin Vernon, Will Oldham, Jenny Lewis, Phosphorescent’s Matt Houck, So Percussion, Bruce Hornsby, and Megafaun’s Phil Cook.
