Grateful Dead's Phil Lesh Diagnosed With Cancer

The Grateful Dead‘s Phil Lesh has been diagnosed with bladder cancer, BBC News reports. He made the announcement on the website for his restaurant/venue Terrapin Crossroads, revealing that he’s being treated at the Mayo Clinic in Scottsdale, Arizona, and will have surgery to remove tumors.

“I am very fortunate to have the pathology reports show that the tumors are all non aggressive and that there is no indication that they have spread,” he wrote.

Two shows later this month with Phil Lesh & Friends will be rescheduled. He says he’s been permitted to resume his normal routine two weeks after the surgery.

Lesh recently took part in the Grateful Dead’s final “Fare Thee Well” shows earlier this year. Read Rob Mitchum’s report.
